Huawei proposes more controllable network protocol

Huawei proposal for a future internet could bring soon more control options. Huawei’s research subsidiary proposes a standardization of a successor to the previous IP based internet, which causes a lot of excitement in engineering circles. The new network would have little to do with the current protocol and due to the various control mechanisms provided in the network, will raise the alarm bells among standardization organizations.

The New Network And Applications Should Be Controlled Centrally

The main argument for a new network that is to be integrated much more vertically, is to provide more capacity for new services such as car to car communication. Instead of the usual layers that build on one another, network traffic and applications running over it should be controlled centrally at fewer points. The basic protocols of the old internet were getting a bit old after a period of time. Instead of retrofitting security and confidentiality to the old protocols, it is better to redesign.

Precisely these control options that give the old IP community abdominal pain. Intrinsic security is one of the keywords in the documents, some of which are published by the internet task force. What is meant are IDs for all users, a kind of pass on the networks that are to be issued by providers and used in traffic. These IDs should be encryptable and also disguise location information. Both should be broken down, which are also added to the network as a new supervisory authority, and which checks incoming and outgoing traffic to determine whether it is authorized. The possible shutdown function caused a sensation. Endpoints should be able to protect themselves against unwanted traffic and the relevant information is returned to the sender’s network operator. The user will then be blocked there in the future.
